Tóshchíín

by Urbina Yazzie

Tóshchíín is a Navajo dish we call blue corn mush. It is made of three ingredients: blue corn meal, juniper ash, and water. Tóshchíín is usually made during ceremonies or family gatherings as thanks to those who have come. It is also a good dish to prepare when the weather begins to get colder. The key ingredient is juniper ash. When adding a teaspoon, it will give the mush a much bluer color.
